Measures for integration after obtaining the status

  • Access to civil registration
    You have the right to access the civil registration in the municipality where you reside.
  • Basic accommodation
    The Ministry of Internal Affairs will provide accommodation for up to two (2) years, based on the eligibility criteria.
  • Education and other services
    You have the right to access primary, secondary and higher education, under the same conditions as all other residents.
    You will also learn and get familiar with the language, culture, history and traditions.
  • Freedom of thought and religion
    You have the right to freely exercise and express your religious opinion and belief without discrimination.

Your rights

  • The right to reside
    You have the right to reside as long as you have been granted the status of international protection.
  • The right to integration
    You are entitled to an integration scheme, as provided by the Regulation on the Integration of Foreigners.
  • Information
    You have the right to be informed, in your own language or in a language you understand, on your rights and obligations and on the procedures.
  • Access to personal documents
    You will be provided with an ID Card for refugees, which also grants you legal residency rights in Kosovo, Travel document, Travel paper
  • The right to employment
    You have the right to work without a work permit for foreigners and you also have the right to practice vocational training for work experience.
  • Social assistance
    According to the Law on Social Assistance Scheme in Kosovo, you are entitled to social assistance. An application for social assistance must be submitted in person at the Centre for Social Work in your respective municipality.
  • Family reunification
    You have the right to family reunification. A request to initiate family reunification procedures must be submitted in person to the Foreigners Division at the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
  • Access to Justice
    You have the right of access to the Basic Courts, the Court of the Appeal and the Supreme Court of Kosovo.
  • The right to own movable and immovable property
    You have the right to possess movable and immovable property.
  • The right to naturalization
    You have the right to naturalization as per the criteria set in the Citizenship Law.

Your obligations

  • To respect the Constitution, laws and regulations, and
  • Inform the Ministry of Internal Affairs of any change of address within seven days.
